First Days of School
KINDERGARTEN: First day of school is Wednesday, September 4th, 7:55-1:10. GRADES 1 – 5: First day of school is Thursday, September 5th, 7:55-2:25 All students will enter the building through their assigned wings (the same as last school year). To find your grade-level entrance, click the Arrival & Dismissal Map.
Dismissal Procedures & Parking Lot Reminders
Bus riders are escorted by staff to their bus. Students biking, walking, or getting picked up will exit with their teacher to the spot indicated on the map above.
The parking lot is for families who want to walk their child to the building entrances during arrival or who wish to meet their child at the end of the day at dismissal. Please note the following rules for the parking lot:
Before using the crosswalk, students and adults must stop and look for cars.
If a student arrives before the doors open at 7:55, they will wait in their car or stand on a sidewalk spot by their assigned entrance. Families dropping students off by car are encouraged to park in the North Park Community Church parking lot across the street and walk to school. This greatly reduces traffic congestion in our parking lot.
Kindergarten Smart Start
After-School Pick-Up (complete form)

Safety Tips from Eugene-Springfield Safe Routes to School
It’s back to school time and that means many more people out and about, traveling to and from schools. It’s exciting and fun, but there’s one thing that all families should add to their lists as they prepare for back to school – safety.
Please practice and discuss these safety tips with your students who are using active transportation to get to school or a bus stop:
- Choose streets with low traffic volumes, slow speeds, few intersections, bicycle lanes and sidewalks with no roadway construction.
- Before crossing any street, look and listen for traffic in all directions.
- If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic so you can see approaching cars.
- Don’t cross or run out into the street from between parked cars. The cars can hide you from drivers so they can’t see you.
- Before starting to cross make sure drivers see you and have stopped. It’s best to make eye contact with the driver so you know they see you.
- Traveling with other people provides safety in numbers. Ask your school if there is a Walking School Bus or Bike Bus to join or if they can help you find someone to travel with.
- Be aware of your surroundings. If you have a cell phone, put away your phone and ear buds, especially while crossing the street.
- Be predictable and visible. If riding a bike, scooter or other device, ride in a straight line and be visible with light or reflective clothing.
- If you ride a bike, skateboard or scooter, always wear a helmet that is properly fitted and fastened.
Let’s see how many students we can get riding the bus, walking, biking and using other forms of active transportation to get to school! Contact your Safe Routes to School Coordinator with any questions and for support with route planning at saferoutes@4j.lane.edu or 541-790-7539.
The following are some tips for people driving to make the morning and evening commute safer and smoother for everyone. Let’s work together to keep kids safe.
-
Take your time while drivingso that you can follow the speed limit and laws.
-
Don’t pass illegally; vehicles may be stopped in front of you because they’re letting students cross the street.
-
Drive the speed limit and watch for school zones. Lower speeds keep people safe.
-
Watch out for children walking and biking to school. Drive defensively and be prepared to stop quickly.
-
Yield to people walking in any crosswalk, whether it is marked or unmarked. Remain stopped until the person walking has cleared both lanes.
-
Crossing guards are there to help students get to school safely. The law requires you to follow the directions of the crossing guard.
-
Stop for school buses. People driving must stop for a school bus when its red lights are flashing, even if it is on the other side of the street.
Free LTD Transit Pass!
All students in 4J schools can get a student pass to ride Lane Transit District (LTD) buses for free. Student transit passes can be used to travel anywhere within the LTD service area. Student passes can be used at any time—after school, on weekends and during school breaks, as well as to get to and from school each day.
To get a free LTD student transit pass, available as a tap card or Umo smartphone app, guardians/parents can make the request for elementary students; middle and high school students can request their own passes at the front office or at high school registration events. Passes are valid from September 1 of the current school year to October 15th of the following year and can be renewed by the school each year for ongoing free service.
