12 days until our Holt Bolt Jog-a-thon
We love the enthusiasm all the kids are showing for the upcoming event and our very own Student Council put up a banner to help the kids countdown the days.
Just a couple of friendly reminders:
1. If you do not wish for your family to participate in the fundraising aspect of Holt Bolt, please return the fundraising packet, SIGNED AT THE BOTTOM, to either the teacher or to the front office. Having it signed lets us know an adult is sending the packet back and it is not being returned by mistake. Students will still earn a raffle ticket for simply turning back in their signed packets, regardless of their participation in raising funds. Raffle Tickets go towards the drawing for our 70+ prizes.
2. Volunteers are still needed for the day of, May 17th, to help set up (7 needed), be table helpers (3 for session 1, 2 for session 2), otter pop helpers (2 for session 1), run music & bubble machines (2 for each session), and clean up (12 needed). Sign up for one or both sessions: Sign Up Here
- Set Up: 7:15am to 8:20am
- Session I: Kinder, 1st & 2nd Grade: 8am to 10am
- Session II: 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade: 10am to 12pm
- Clean Up: 11:45 am to 1pm
Approved 4j Volunteer background checks are required to volunteer since this is during school hours.
- Unsure of your background status? Please reach out to Keri in the front office and she can let you know. Call 541-790-6100 or email schneider_ke@4j.lane.edu
- If you need to start the process to have your background check approved, submit your application HERE
3. Do not wish to volunteer for the event but want to come out to cheer your child on? You still need to have an approved 4J background check on file with the Holt office. All adults will need to check in at the front office and need to wear their visitor badge while on school grounds. Any adult not wearing a visitor badge or having their 4J staff badges visible will be asked to check in to the office or to leave the school property. This is for the safety of all our students.
Accessible Education Parent Group, THURSDAY @6:00
Join us at Holt in the library for our Accessible Education Parent Group! This is for parents of students with learning differences, who may receive special education, speech, or 504 services. The purpose of this team is to create a community for parents, students, and educators. Hope to see you there!

Electronics Recycling Competition
Attention families! As you probably know by now, our school is currently participating in an Electronics Recycling Competition (through May 15th). There is an important update to know about: ( versión en español) The NextStep donation center is now open until 5 pm! Here is the updated info:Between now and May 15th, simply drop off your used or broken electronics — anything that uses batteries or plugs in — at NextStep Recycling (245 Jackson St. in Eugene - 8:30 am to 5:00 pm - Mon. to Fri.). Please mention our school at drop-off so we can get credit for the donation. Do you have useless or broken electronics piling up in your house? This event is a great way to keep these potentially harmful materials out of our landfills and recycle responsibly. It also increases the chances for our school to win a valuable gift certificate to the NextStep Reuse store! Thank you for your participation! For more info, please check out the above flyer

Parent and Family Engagement Survey
Thank you for taking a few minutes to complete this SURVEY. Your feedback will be used to inform our efforts to continually improve our district, our schools, and our partnership with parents to help students succeed. If you have more than one student attending school in Eugene School District 4J and have had a different experience for different students, please fill out a separate survey for each student. That provides the schools with information specific to each student’s individual educational experience. If you have questions or input regarding this survey, please call the Instruction Department at 541-790-7550. Once again, thank you for your time and input. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SYL6G6V
Healthy school facilities—no elevated levels of lead in drinking water
To continue to provide safe, healthy school facilities, and in compliance with state law, the district routinely tests for lead in water taps. We’re pleased to report that the results of recent tests at our school show no elevated levels of lead in our drinking water. For more information and detailed results, please visit 4j.lane.edu/waterquality

Architecture & Design Opportunities for Oregon Students
Virtual Architects in Schools Summer Camp (designed for youth ages 8-12) Please help us in sharing our Architects in Schools Summer Camp information (see attached English and Spanish flyer). Our virtual camp held from June 24-28 is free and designed for youth ages 8-12. During this camp, students will learn about the benefits of adaptive reuse and how the built environment must evolve with cultural, societal, and environmental changes. They will take on the role of an architect and builder to redesign a structure for their community. Learn more here or through the link in the attached flyer. Register by June 14 to participate (Oregon residents can request a free supply box by June 7). 2024 Summer Camp Catalog (for students K-College) There are several great camps for Oregon students to explore design this summer (including our Architects in Schools Camp, NOMA PDX's Project Pipeline, ELSO's Wayfinders and more) and we have compiled those opportunities into our 2024 Summer Camp Catalog (please see PDF attachments, English and Spanish version). Registration deadlines are approaching soon. Here are the weblinks in case those are easier for you to share: English Catalog, Spanish Catalog. Oregon Student Opportunities Hub (for students K-College) Our Hub is a resource for students, Kindergarten through Post-Secondary, to explore architecture, engineering, construction, and design opportunities across Oregon. This includes programs, camps, internships, scholarships, events, and more. Check it out and share with a student!
Free Lock, Helmet & Replacement Bikes
Safe Routes to School has a grant from EEF to buy bikes for students whose bikes are stolen from school or who simply need a bike - ideally for school transportation, but that's not a requirement. The same grant also provides U-locks and helmets to give away to students. If you know of a student in need of a bike, just fill out the linked Lock, Helmet & Replacement Bike Requests Request Form.
Clear out clutter and create joy by donating a bike!
Shift Community Cycles is a source of bikes for many of our students for whom a bike would be otherwise out of reach. The nonprofit keeps costs down by collecting donated bikes on Tuesdays through Saturdays, 11am-6pm at their shop at 811 W 6th Ave in Eugene. Stop by or email a photo to info@shiftcc.org if you're unsure if your bikes are in good enough shape to be accepted. Thank you!
