Student Attendance and Tardies Reminder

One of the most reliable predictors of school success is regular attendance. Absences for any reason result in lost instruction time. We know that students who fall behind often become discouraged learners. It is our hope that we can work together to encourage your child’s regular attendance and success at school. We understand that there are many factors in your lives that make it difficult, at times, for your child to be in school or on time. However, it is important that we work with you to reduce these to an absolute minimum. Class activities start promptly in the morning. This morning class time is one of the most important times of the day. When a child comes in late, not only have they missed valuable class time, it is disruptive to their classmates.

When your child is going to be late or absent from school, please call the attendance line at (541) 790-6111, before 8:15 a.m. and inform the office staff. You may leave a message on the voice mail, if calling before office hours. Please leave the name of your child, their teacher’s name, and the reason for the absence. It is extremely important that this be done, as every child must be accounted for on a daily basis. As a friendly reminder, according to Oregon Truancy Regulations, if your student has eight unexcused half-day absences in any four-week period, you will receive a letter from the school notifying you of our attendance concerns. Please understand that if irregular attendance continues, we will be obligated to make a referral to a truancy officer for further investigation.

REPEAT: Student/Family Directory Coming Soon

Holt is going to create a good old-fashioned Student Directory for families, so students and parents are able to connect with one another.

The directory will be sorted by classroom and will include:

• Student name
• Parent name
• Parent email
• Parent telephone number

We already have on file any families who opted out of releasing Student Directory Information when you first enrolled.

If there are families who would like to opt out now, email principal Allan Chinn at chinn@4j.lane.edu by Feb. 28th.

REPEAT: 3rd Grade Cultural Heritage Project Night
Thursday, February 23rd, 6:30-7:30pm

3rd Grade students are researching various aspects of their personal background or the history of their local community.

The culminating activity of this project is Cultural Heritage Project Night on Thursday, February 23rd. Students will present to their families and to the community from 6:30-7:30 pm in the gym and cafeteria.

REPEAT: 4th Grade Invention Night
Thursday, February 23rd, 6:30-7:15pm

Families of 4th graders are invited to come to see and hear about the amazing INVENTION PROJECTS that have been created! There will be Cookies!

PLEASE ENTER THROUGH THE BACK OF THE BUILDING. 3rd grade is hosting its Heritage Night in the gym and will enter through the front. The doors to the B-Wing will be open in the back right of the school.

Conscious Discipline Parent Nights, Feb. 28

Kona Ice – Holt Shave Ice Fundraiser, Friday, March 3rd

Want to support Holt and get yummy shave ice when you pick up at dismissal?

Kona Ice is coming to Holt on Friday, March 3rd from 12:30-2:00, and is giving us a percentage of all sales this day!

Bus riders will be dismissed early if they brought money for shave ice, so they have time to buy and eat their shave ice before getting onto the bus.

4J Budget Priorities Family Input

The latest 4J Parent Newsletter included a section for families to give input on where you think 4J’s budget priorities should be.

Should 4J focus on lowering class sizes or should they focus on supporting initiatives from the Office of Equity, Inclusion & Instruction?

REPEAT: Eugene Youth Math Festival

Saturday, Feb. 25th from 10:00-1:00 at McArthur Court at the UO, elementary and middle-school students who are passionate about strategy games, like solving problems, or enjoy hands-on math activities and crafts, to come to the fourth Eugene Youth Math Festival. With generous support from the UO Department of Mathematics and from the National Science Foundation admission is free and no registration is needed. Come and explore!

REPEAT: 2023 Electronics Recycling Competition!

Have any old electronics collecting dust? If it has a plug or takes batteries, and whether it’s working or not, just drop them off at NextStep (245 Jackson St.) between February 1 and April 30th (making sure you tell them it’s for Holt) or drop them off at the collection site in front of the office the week of March 20th to 24th.

Cell phones, monitors, computers, phones, cables, etc. we’ll take it all!

The school with the most “e-waste” collected wins a $500 gift certificate and a Next Step Robot made by a local artist. Holt won this competition in the past, so let’s see if we can win again!

REPETICIÓN: Recordatorio de Asistencia y Tardanzas de los Estudiantes

Uno de los predictores más confiables del éxito escolar es la asistencia regular. Las ausencias por cualquier razón resultan en tiempo de instrucción perdido. Sabemos que los estudiantes que se atrasan a menudo se convierten en estudiantes desalentados. Es nuestra esperanza que podemos trabajar juntos para animar la asistencia regular de su niño y el éxito en la escuela. Entendemos que hay muchos factores en sus vidas que hacen difícil, a veces, que su hijo esté en la escuela o a tiempo. Sin embargo, es importante que trabajemos con usted para reducirlos al mínimo. Las actividades de clase comienzan puntualmente por la mañana. Este tiempo de clase matinal es uno de los momentos más importantes del día. Cuando un niño llega tarde, no sólo ha perdido un valioso tiempo de clase, sino que además molesta a sus compañeros.

Cuando su hijo vaya a llegar tarde o a ausentarse de la escuela, por favor llame a la línea de asistencia al (541) 790-6111, antes de las 8:15 a.m. e informe al personal de la oficina. Puede dejar un mensaje en el buzón de voz, si llama antes de las horas de oficina. Por favor, deje el nombre de su hijo, el nombre de su profesor y el motivo de la ausencia. Es extremadamente importante que esto se haga, ya que cada niño debe ser contabilizado diariamente. Como un recordatorio amistoso, según las Regulaciones de Ausentismo de Oregon, si su estudiante tiene ocho ausencias de medio día sin excusa en cualquier período de cuatro semanas, usted recibirá una carta de la escuela que le notifica de nuestras preocupaciones de asistencia. Por favor, entienda que si la asistencia irregular continúa, estaremos obligados a hacer una referencia a un oficial de absentismo escolar para una mayor investigación.

REPETICIÓN: Noche del Proyecto de Patrimonio Cultural de 3º curso

Holt va a crear un directorio de estudiantes a la antigua para las familias, por lo que los estudiantes y los padres son capaces de conectarse entre sí.

• El directorio estará ordenado por aula e incluirá:
• Nombre del alumno
• Nombre de los padres
• Correo electrónico de los padres
• Número de teléfono de los padres

Ya tenemos en el archivo a las familias que optaron por no divulgar la información del directorio estudiantil cuando se inscribieron por primera vez.

Jueves, 23 de febrero, 6:30-7:30pm

Los alumnos de 3er grado están investigando varios aspectos de sus antecedentes personales o de la historia de su comunidad local.

La actividad culminante de este proyecto es la Noche del Proyecto de Herencia Cultural el jueves 23 de febrero. Los estudiantes presentarán a sus familias y a la comunidad de 6:30-7:30 pm en el gimnasio y la cafetería.

4J Prioridades Presupuestarias Aportaciones de las Familias

El último boletín Parnet 4J incluye una sección para que las familias den su opinión sobre las prioridades presupuestarias del 4J.

¿Debe 4J centrarse en la reducción de tamaño de las clases o deben centrarse en apoyar las iniciativas de la Oficina de Equidad, Inclusión e Instrucción?

El sábado 25 de febrero de 10:00 a 13:00 en el McArthur Court de la UO, los estudiantes de primaria y secundaria a los que les apasionen los juegos de estrategia, les guste resolver problemas o disfruten con las actividades matemáticas prácticas y las manualidades, que vengan al cuarto Festival Juvenil de Matemáticas de Eugene.
